Acquisitions Editor
Under the supervision of the Co-Directors, the Acquisitions Editor will acquire new manuscripts and oversee publishing process from acquisition, evaluation, review, and presentation to the Editorial Board through transmittal to production, marketing, and sales. Areas of acquisition include education, gender studies, and Hispanic studies, with the opportunity to explore new areas of growth and development. Some travel is required. A Master's degree with 1-3 years experience in publishing is required; a doctorate in one of the areas of acquisition is preferred. Do you have a passion for books and ideas? Have you ever wondered how editors choose which books to publish? How manuscripts become bound books? How a book ends up on the shelf of a local bookstore or listed on

If you love books and have a deep curiosity about what it takes to get published, how editors shape their “lists” of books, the book-making process, or the work it takes to get books out in the marketplace, a SUNY Press internship will give you the opportunity to learn what it’s like to work in the publishing industry.

SUNY Press interns are assigned a range of entry-level responsibilities that familiarize them with the key procedures, policies, and operational systems associated with a select aspect of the publishing process. The internships described below are usually available each academic semester and during the summer.

Exhibits Internship
Exhibit interns will assist the exhibits program by creating order forms, author flyers, electronic mailings, and researching possible upcoming conferences. Other tasks include packing and shipping out exhibit materials and award nominations, and helping to create the exhibits portion of the marketing plan. Familiarity with InDesign and Access is a plus.
